Cinema Off School 2022
Sunday, May 29, 2022
Venue: Zlín Congress Center (Small Hall)
Organizers: Association for Film and Audiovisual Education, Zlín Film Festival, Creative Europe Office – MEDIA
Topic: Legally and easily – film in school teaching
The Cinema Off School 2022 conference focused on projects and organizations that offer films in schools both in the Czech Republic and abroad. It is not only about the films themselves but also the methodical work with them which helps teachers to teach through films and about films. One of the fundamental obstacles to the availability of films is the legislative issue. The simple use of films in schools is prevented by a vaguely worded copyright law. We therefore address the legal context in the final panel discussion which was attended by representatives of cultural institutions, experts in copyright and licenses, as well as representatives of film producers.

Theme: Teacher in the lead role
The sixth edition of the international conference Cinema Off School focused on the most important profession, which can make a significant difference in promoting the field in educational programmes – teachers. While educators use film excerpts, whole works in their teaching, they often serve only as background or illustrations. There are few qualified teachers of film and audiovisual education. All the more valuable is the experience of those who teach film, audiovisual and multimedia in primary, primary art and secondary schools. In addition to domestic experiences, we will also present examples from abroad – among others, the Moving Cinema project.
